No concealable weapons allowed signs in Charleston County parks.

Since 2021, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission has banned the carrying of concealable weapons on over 11,000 acres of public lands.

The South Carolina Attorney General has opined that this ban is unlawful because South Carolina law expressly prohibits local government from regulating firearms.

As a result of this unlawful firearm ban, concealed weapon permit holders who wish to exercise their constitutional rights are subject to fines, arrest, and imprisonment.

A Charleston County resident has brought a suit challenging this action, and South Carolina Carry has assisted him with the drafting of motions and filings.

… but we have now reached the time when we need your support!

Dear Senator/Representative:

Please contact the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission and demand that they remove the “no concealable weapons allowed’ signs from the entrance to Charleston County parks.

In July 2022, the Attorney General’s Office issued an opinion stating that these signs are unlawful because South Carolina law expressly prohibits local government from regulating firearms. See Op. S.C. Att’y. Gen., 2022 WL 3452222 (July 22, 2022).

I, along with many of your constituents, am deeply disturbed to see non-partisan organizations push radical gun-control agendas in violation of state law.

Thank you
